Plein Air Paintings are small oil sketches done out on location. I have 2 different size paint boxes: a small Thumb Box that holds 6x8 panels. It is light weight and easy to carry while hiking, also taking up little space when traveling; and an Open M Pochade Box that will hold up to a 12x16 panel. It is a little heavier but will hold more art supplies. Keeping it in a backpack with wheels makes hauling easier. When going outside I use a limited palette of no more than 6 colors. usually taking Cobalt or Ultramarine Blue, Permanent Rose or Cadmium Red Light, Sap Green, Burnt Sienna, Cadmium Yellow Light and Titanium White.
