A passion for art began early in Theresa's life. At the age of 10, she received a Jon Gnaggy drawing set for Christmas. Guided by her mother - an accomplished artist in her own right . she faithfully performed every exercise placed before her. She continued to study and hone her talent throughout her formative years, amassing an impressive collection of awards for a young artist along the way. Newly wed in 1978, Theresa and her husband Tim, bought a garden center and greenhouse business in their hometown of Vine Grove, nestled in the heart of the bluegrass country of Kentucky. As the business flourished during the ensuing years, she was never far from her easel. Encouraged by Tim's unwavering support, Theresa continued to produce works that would ultimately win her accolades from critics and contemporaries alike as her skills continued to develop. Despite being color blind (and left-handed), her interpretations have a depth and perspective that belies that 'handicap'. "I feel if gives me a unique advantage", She says. "It lifts traditional restraints regarding hues, allowing me to paint as I feel, adding color in places that my eyes pick up as shades of gray and brown." Under the tutelage of such masters as Chen-Khee Chee, Gerald Brommer and Charles Gruppe, Theresa has developed her own distinctive style. Using her favorite mediums of oil and pastel, in her passionate quest for perfection, she captures the essence of her subjects in impressionistic realism. Florals, still lifes and landscapes flow effortlessly from her talented brush. Traveling extensively to enjoy painting en plein air has given Theresa an additional opportunity to expand her repertoire. Now, as a part time Floridian, she has found a new muse in the tropical flora and fauna surrounding her and Tim's North Fort Myers home. The tranquil river and canal reflections nearby are a particular lure for her artistic eye. Winning numerous awards in juried shows in a vast array of venues, her paintings hang in public and private collections across the United States and abroad. “Creating is something I have to do! It’s part of who I am.” Theresa is a Juried and Exhibiting Member of the following organizations: Central Kentucky Art Guild Oil Painters of America Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen Kentucky Crafted: Visual Arts at the Market
